Safe Families for Children of Wisconsin Announces
Appointment of CEO
Julia Weede, formerly Chief Communications Officer of Carnegie Corporation of New York,
Joins to Lead State Organization
Milwaukee, WI, October 29, 2024 – Safe Families for Children of Wisconsin (SFFC-WI), a non-profit organization that seeks to keep children safe and families together, announced October 29, 2024 the appointment of Julia Weede as Chief Executive Officer and State Director. She will lead a network of seven different service area sites that serve 14 counties throughout the state.
Safe Families’ goals are to prevent child abuse and neglect, reduce the number of children entering the child welfare system, and support and stabilize families. It works to build a network of caring and compassionate volunteers to support families facing social isolation. Local sites in Wisconsin have seen significant growth and formed a state chapter to create more support and broader opportunities for service to the state’s families.
“Our board of directors is thrilled that Julia Weede has been hired as the new CEO/State Director for Safe Families for Children of Wisconsin,” said Paul Veldhouse, SFFC-WI Board Chair. “We are reaching many more families with our work and are excited to build new opportunities under Julia’s leadership.”
Julia Weede, a southeast Wisconsin native, grew up in Oconomowoc, WI and spent her early career in the Milwaukee area. Her work in communications eventually led her to New York and Washington DC where she led a large education practice as Executive Vice President at Edelman, a global communications firm. She most recently served as Chief Communications Officer at Carnegie Corporation of New York, one of America’s oldest grantmaking foundations. She has served as a mentor and safe haven herself, and is eager to return home to work for Wisconsin’s families.
“The work of Safe Families for Children is important, vital, and incredibly inspiring. I’m honored and excited to become a part of this movement,” said Ms. Weede, “I’m humbled by the radical hospitality shown by Safe Families’ volunteers, the disruptive generosity of its partners, and the intentional compassion of its directors and staff. If I can support and strengthen their work, I will know we have made a difference that matters for Wisconsin.”
